Military veterans are true heroes, having made tremendous sacrifices for our nation. Their unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms can sometimes come with different challenges after serving, which is why supporting them when they return home is so important. At Leaf Home, we understand this need deeply and have ingrained it into the fabric of our mission.
We embrace a special appreciation for veterans and their families and show it through various initiatives. One of our favorites? Our Leaf Home Veterans Day Stair Lift Giveaway! As a leading provider of advanced home solutions, we recognize the power of technology in enhancing lives. Our stair lifts are not just products; they’re lifelines for independence and comfort, especially for those who’ve served our country.
In 2023, we were proud to give back, providing the gift of mobility and safety to deserving veterans through our Stair Lift Giveaway. This initiative is more than just an event; it’s our way of saying thank you for our military veterans’ service, sacrifice, and courage. We invite you to join us as we honor America’s heroes and meet the winners of our 2023 giveaway.
Leaf Home’s Dedication to Supporting Military Veterans
At Leaf Home, our commitment to supporting military veterans is more than a corporate responsibility. It’s a core value that shapes our business operations and community outreach. We believe in giving back to those who have selflessly served our country and aim to do so through various initiatives tailored to their unique needs.
We understand the challenges many veterans and their families may face at home while navigating the needs for mobility, independence, and comfort. These needs fuel our mission to provide advanced home solutions that make a real difference in their lives.
- We’ve developed the Leaf Home Veterans Program to aid veterans transitioning back to civilian life. The program offers opportunities like career advancement, continued education, and credentials acquisition. These include GI benefits, a professional learning track, and a veteran employee mentorship program.
- We believe in the power of collaboration to create meaningful change. That’s why we’ve partnered with organizations like DOD SkillBridge and Vet Connect to expand our support for veterans.
- Moreover, our Leaf Home Veterans Stair Lift Giveaway is more than a giveaway—it’s a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, acknowledging the sacrifices made by our veterans.
Through these initiatives, we want to provide more than just a product or a service. We aim to create a positive impact, reaffirming our dedication to improving the lives of military veterans. It’s our way of saying, “Thank you for your service. We honor and appreciate you.”
The Selection Process of the 2023 Leaf Home Veterans Day Stair Lift Giveaway
Our state-of-the-art stair lifts are designed with precision engineering, providing the perfect balance of comfort, safety, and ease of use. They serve as a tool for independence, facilitating effortless mobility within the home, particularly for veterans facing physical challenges.
We were privileged to offer these advanced mobility solutions to 13 exceptional veterans, turning their homes into a place of comfort rather than a challenge.
The Selection Process
- Open to all military veterans, regardless of service branch or active-duty period.
- Veterans or their family members submitted applications.
- Each application was then thoroughly reviewed by a panel of Leaf Home representatives and veteran advocates.
- Of the 286 entries, 13 winners were selected randomly. This is a remarkable 700% increase in entries compared to last year and double the winners.
Guided by our mission and values, we aimed to acknowledge veterans who exemplify resilience and dedication. Our goal was to ensure that our stair lifts would significantly improve the lives of these heroes and their families by enhancing their mobility and independence at home.
While we could only select 13 winners, we deeply appreciate and honor every applicant.
Spotlight on the Winners
At Leaf Home, we believe in the power of stories to connect and inspire. Today, we’re honored to share the stories of seven extraordinary veterans who were recipients of our 2023 Veterans Day Stair Lift Giveaway.
- Terry Stern is a U.S. Army National Guard veteran in Huntersville, NC. Coming from a generation of veterans, Terry’s story is as much about his family’s legacy as it is about him. He started basic training on August 5, 1971, following in the footsteps of his great-grandfather and grandfather. The stair lift installed in his home primarily benefits his wife, who works upstairs and had difficulty navigating the stairs. This installation will not only enhance her mobility but also ease Terry’s concern for her safety.
2. James Kosharek, a U.S. Army veteran from Milwaukee, WI, applied for the stair lift giveaway with his wife in mind. While navigating stairs has become more challenging, the stair lift will give her newfound freedom. It will allow her to enjoy their outdoor patio whenever she desires.
3. Bob Shiflet, a U.S. Navy veteran residing in Littleton, CO, faced challenges with his home’s main staircase due to lower back issues and leg problems. The stair lift installation will provide a safe and comfortable solution, allowing Bob to move between levels easily.
4. Clyde Matthews, a U.S. Army veteran with 24 years of service, resides in Fayetteville, NC. After recently experiencing a knee injury and his wife undergoing hip surgery, navigating the stairs of their multi-level home became increasingly difficult. The stair lift installation enables them to continue living in the home they love. Clyde remarks that it “will allow me to live in my house for the remainder of my life on earth.”
5. Christopher Vanslager, a U.S. Army veteran from West Bloomfield, MI, lives in a house filled with heroes. The stair lift installed in his home is helping several veterans, including his 95-year-old father-in-law, a retired Army Master Sergeant who fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, his mother-in-law, and a 91-year-old USMC veteran who received the Purple Heart.
6. Jeff Weller, a U.S. Navy veteran based in Columbus, OH, saw the stair lift as an investment in the future. Jeff wanted to ensure he and his wife could continue living in the house they love as they age while also accommodating visiting in-laws who would otherwise struggle with the second-floor bedrooms.
7. Keith Farthing, a U.S. Navy veteran living in Dayton, OH, found navigating his home’s staircase challenging due to the lack of a handrail and experiencing occasional dizziness. The stair lift will provide a safe and reliable solution, allowing Keith to move around his home confidently.
“Congratulations to the recipients of our Veterans Day Stair Lift Giveaway. Your service is the epitome of courage and dedication, and all of us at Leaf Home are committed to supporting our veterans and their families in many ways. It is a privilege to have this opportunity to express our deep gratitude. We hope these stair lifts will enable you and your families to experience your homes in new ways, enhancing your comfort, mobility, and independence,” said Jon Bostock, CEO of Leaf Home.
