The unique structure and discipline of military life which often differ significantly from the civilian work environment, leading many veterans to experience culture shock. It can also be difficult for veterans to articulate their military skills in terms that resonate with potential employers. These employers may lack an understanding that those skills bring value to a certain position. Additionally, without an established professional network in the civilian world, veterans can find themselves at a disadvantage in a competitive job market.

“When I was transitioning from active duty to the reserves, I decided to take advantage of the DOD SkillBridge program. I worked at Leaf Home for three months as a paralegal intern and found the experience extremely rewarding. As my internship was ending, I started having conversations with the legal team about how I would love to work for this company. Now, I am corporate counsel here at Leaf Home. I have been full-time for almost three months and am enjoying every day of it!”
